NORFOLK ISLAND.
Writing on October 13 our Norfolk Island correspondent states: —
There have lately been erected four poles to carry leading lights, two at the town landing .audi two at the Cascade, a bright and a reel lantern at each place, which will be a boon to steamers arriving in the night.
The whaling, now that the weather lias changed for the better, is turning out very well Indeed, arid the men are in hopes of making a fair season. >o. " Company, who only started a few days ago, tared three large cows within tho hist week, and No. 1 Company one last Monday. Tie cows and calves are plentiful, and show good ohfnoes, and will not take off perhaps until the end al the month, when the season closes. Tiiere have been two death# through mlstkJveiitijre the last week. One, a youth named 'Charles Christian, aged 16, employed at; the cable st.ition, ran a rusty nail into his foot and died of tetanus on the 7Hi Inst.; and tllse ooher was an old Pitculris lady, Mrs. Lucy Christian, wife of Mr. L river Christian, widely known and respected by overvbody. Mrs. Christian was chased by a cow close to her house, and, jnmpin? over a will to enoapti, she fall and hurt herself Internally.
