WAIKATO AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.
[BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Thursday. A MEETING Of the Waikato A. ana T. Association was held this morning. ,
Twelve Dew members wtre elected. Mrs. F. L. Wright, of Drury, wrote enclosing a cheque for £0 53, and expressing her intention to continue the practice of her late husband of giving a cup every year. Mr. J. G. Clayton, M.8.C.V.5., informed the association that he had been instructed by the chief veterinary surgeon to attend the next show and examine the stud horses. He would be unable to give certificates to any animal suffering from one or any of. the following diseases:—Roaring or whistling, side bone, ring bone, navicular disease, curb bone, spavin, bog sprain, grease, shivering, and cataract. There were three diseases which do not constitute hereditary unsoundness, which might preclude an animal from being shown in the ring, -viz., stringhalt, bad splints, and weak or deformed feet. This would have to be left to the discretion of the veterinary surgeon. Some discussion ensued about the inclusion of side bone, but eventually, on the motion of Mr. Farrer, seconded by Mr. Slade, it was decided to adopt the list of diseases with the exception of grease. A discussion took place regarding the site of the Hamilton salcyards. The chairman said this was a question which principally affected the farmers. It had been suggested that the association should take the matter up and get yards erected at Claudelands, which was a much more convenient site, besides having drafting yards. Mr. Chitty said that £300 had been promised about 12 months ago for the improvement o:-' the yards, and had this been expended no trouble would have followed. It was now proposed to shift the yards back on the hill site. There was no prospect of a loan being carried. Eventually the farmers would have to take the matter into their own hands. Mr. Duxfield thought that the matter should be discussed at a general meeting of .farmers. The matter then dropped. . A.t a meeting of the executive it was determined to" supply carting for bringing exhibits of implements on to the ground. The committee appointed by the Borough Council to report re saleyards, met to-day, and decided to recommend the Council to adopt Mr. Barton's scheme, take levels of the proposed new site, and hold a special meeting on Monday to consider the matter.
