CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB'S SPRING MEETING. HEAVY RAINS INTERFERE WITH TRAINING. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN' CORRESPONDENT.]; Christchtibch, Wednesday. A THICK, drizzling rain set in early on Tuesday. By night it had increased to a steady downpour, which continued practically without intermission all night. To-day rain has been falling steadily, and at present there is no sign of improvement. The tracks were in a very bad state this morning, in places they were under water, and no work was possible. The turn which the weather has taken is most unfortunate, coming so close to the racing carnival. Many of tho horses were in need of all the galloping they could get, and the enforced idleness will prejudicially affect the chances of several candidates for important races at the coming meeting. To-day's downpour has left the tracks in a deplorable condition, and they will not be fit for fast work for several days, unless we have a spell of high winds in the meantime. However, it is rather early to discuss the track prospects, as rain is still falling heavily.
