Death of a Teacher: On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to send a letter of sympathy (<> the relatives of the late Mr. Robert McPheraon, who was In the employ of the Board as a teacher from .1883 to li'Ol, resigning during the latter year owing to ill-health. Mr, Luke said the deceased had been first assistant in town schools and Had had charge of conn try schools, and had proved himself a capable teacher and good servant to the Chairman*! The Waeranga Committee had been informed that tenders for the erection of school building would be invited when the title had been completed. .... , ,i,„ Temperance Subjects: An application from the Auckland Temperance Crusaders for permission to arrange for the delivery of lectures on temperance subjects to teachers and scholars was declined, it being pointed out that time could not be afforded owing to the already congested state of the District Scholarship Examination?: The secretary reported that December 1!) had been fixed as the date for the opening of the district scholarship examinations, and that. the centres suggested were Auckland. Thames, Hamilton, Whangare . and AMtapu. The Board agreed that examinations should be held at the centres mentioned. Hamilton West School: The lowest tender received tor the renovation and additions to the Hamilton West school being considerably m excess of the estimate, it was decided, on the recommendation of the architects, to call fresh tenders. Drawing Instructor for Thames: An application from the Thames Educational Institute urging that the Board's drawing instructor should visit the Thames was referred to the chief inspector and director of technical education to arrange loi the instructor's visits. T i,« National Scholarship Examinations and Fees Ihe secretary reported that it. was understood that the junior national scholarship examinations wonld_ be held on December 13 and 14, and that clause . of the regulations relating to fees had been altered to read as under:— *'The examination fee will be refunded to every candidate that passes the examination, provided that he has not previously obtained a certificate of proficiency in the work of the sixth * Report's on Assistants' Work: Pursuant to notice, Mr. Harris moved, '"That it be an instruction to iieadteachers to show to their assistants all examination and inspection reports in the schools linear their charge." The motion was adopted. Woodside School: The application for a new school at Manurewa, together with the proposal to remove the Woodside school to a more central site (South Bond and Manurewa station), were discussed. Mr. Stallworthv, who had visited and inspected lie district, reported that the time was not ripe .Withe removal of the Woodside school, and suggested that an offer of live acres of land for a site at Manurewa, with a view to future requirements, should be accepted. On Mr. Edgecnmbe's motion ; it was decided to secure the site mentioned and to allow the Woodside school to remain on the piesent site in the meantime. . . Finance Committee's Report: The report of the Finance Committee, covering the following recommendations, was adopted:— That the following accounts be paid .---Administration .■account. That application be again made to the Minister, in terms of the recommendation made after local inquiry by Mr. Stallworthv, for the statutory house allowance to the teacher of the Tatarariki school. 3, The committee have conferred with Major D. H. Lust, of the Bands and Survey Department, in regard to the disposal of the remaining timber on- the Girls' High School endowment property. i. That the midsummer holidays be fixed to begin on Monday, December 19, except for any schools which may require to be examined during that week, and that Wednesday, February 1, be fixed as the date for re-opening the schools. Public Schools' Athletic Sports: A request ti.pm the Public Schools' Amateur Athletic Association for a special holiday on the last school day of the vear for the holding of the annual sport* on the Domain Cricket Ground was granted. Selection of Teachers : The report of the Teachers Selection Committee embraced the following recommendations:-!. That the following appointments be authorised by the Board:— A. L. Hawkes, to be mistress of Oxford school; Miss 1. E Pilicot, to be assistant of Cambridge District High-School: Miss L. M. Rill, substitute assistant, to Grafton school in the absence of the relieving teacher; Miss E. M. Fawcett, pupil-teacher, from T> \roha to Hamilton West District High School; Mr C. B. Bseson, pupil-teacher, from To Arona to Beresford-street school. 2. That the. HobsoimlhSchool Committee be asfced to select a teacher from the five candidates, undernamed:-Messrs. A. A. Kennv, W. C. Wilson, J. T. Teesdale, D. 8. B. Squire and P. J. Hook. 3. That applications be invited bv advertisement for the following appointments :-Kaitara, sole charge; -Bombay, mistress. 4 Your committee recommend that the llotorua School Committee be informed that their request for the appointment of an additional teacher cannot be granted at present, in view of the requirements of the colonial scale. 3. Your committee have consulted the Woodhill School Committee in regard ,o th« proposed appointment of Miss N. Richards »= I mistress. The report was adopted as read.
