The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report:—On October 10, 20, and 21 we held our nnnna'i horse fair at the Ohaupo Tard3, and offered 600 unbroken colts ami horses •( all classes. Competition was brisk from start to finish of sale for all sorts, excepting aged draught geldings and the ordinary low-priced hacks. These were lower in pries than at . the previous month's sales at Cambridge. Good, sound, young mares, either medium or heavy, draught. elicited keen competition, farmers evidently wishing to secure animals suitable for breeding purposes as well ts farm work. A very large number of colts were brought forward, mostly strong farmers' sorts and medium. draughts, and these sold readily at satisfactory prices. Good draught mares' from three ▼ears to eight years old realised from £35 to £47; medium "draught mares, £28 to £34; draught geldings, £27 to £40; active draughts, £32 to £37; upstanding hacks and harness horses, £18 to £29; strong spring-cart horses, £12 to £20; buggy Torses, £16 10s to £17 10s; good cobs, £8 to £15 10s; unbroken medium draught colts and fillies, £24' 103 to £35; strong harness sorts, £12 to £18; lighter sorts, £7 Ids to £11; light hack colts, £1: 15s to £10 IO3; low-priced broken hicks, £6 10s to £8 10s; ponies, £2 5s to £4; weeds, 10s upwards. Fat cattle: 170 were yarded, nearly all being of good quality. For steers, the demand was good and prices were well maintained. Sixty-three North Island steer.'i brought £8 10s' to £14 10s; three special, £9 7s Gd to £15; others, £7 2s 6d to £11 7s 6d; heifers, £6 7s 6d to £7 10s; cows, £7 7s 6d. Prices equalled 21s to- 2Gs per 1001b op to -27s Gd for special. Fat -sheep: A medium entry, comprised chiefly of good quality wethers and some prirae heavyewes. The sale opened easier, but finished well up to late rates. Good to prime woolly wethers, 35* to '38s. Gd; others, 22s to 24s 6d. Prime woolly ewes, 25s to 28s; others, 21s to 24s Gd; shorn ▼ethers, 18s to 21s 3d; ewes, 17s 9d to 20s 3d; merino wethers, '11 wool, 17s 4d to 24» lid. Only 64 lambi were penned, keen competition resulting in increased prices. Best brought 21s 6f! to 235; others, 18s to' 21s; and a few at 15s Od. Pigs: The entry was small, chiefly bacon and porkers, which met with good demand, but stores failed to find buyers. Baconers wade 45s to GOs (equal to 4Jd to 4sd per lb); porkers, 28s to 3Ss (equal to 5d to 5Jd per lb).
