A SCOW OVERDUE.
Souk anxiety is being felt regarding the Auckland scow Hoanga,, which sailed from Dunedin for Hokianga on September 17, and lias not since been heard of. This would make the vessel now 40 days out. Although this is an unusually long time far a. vessel to be on the passage between the two ports, it has on several occasions. taken liven longer by much larger vessel. Shortly after the Hoanga's departure from Dnnedin exceptionally severe, weather was experienced along the coast of the South Island, and the general opinion is that the vessel has been caught in the gale and driven to the north-east. The prevailing winds since then and up to a few days ago have been such as to prevent the vessel making the New Zealand coast again.
The Hoanga is a, comparatively new vessel, having been built at the Kaipara early this year, to the order cf Mr. John Harrison and others, and on her first voyage from Auckland to , Gisbame was dismasted, and had to be towed to the laiter port.
