AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT. ,:>„!; manager of the New Four-in-Hand field Mining Company's mine telegraphed ' Yesterday that he had cUt either* a new reef ? No. * level or the left-hand branch which 2 jye all the specimens in the upper level. Th& size of the lode cut is 3ft, and colours 0 gold are continually seen. The manager jylcled that 81b of picked stone were to hand. This development is looked upon by the clirectors as being of the utmost importance to ; l¥ life of the mine. The manager discovered r ilia reef, about oft wide, in the intermediate : tec. above, about three wee'-* ago, and took v ,out 131b of specimens. He did not quite Jnow what to make of the discovery at that . point, and thereupon put in a crosscut from the low level (No. 4), 20ft below the point. Hof intersection, with the result stated. II: this is a new reef it will have 210 ft of hacks to the surface, if it is the left-hand branch of the specimen reef it will have 90ft of backs. and will go to prove that the right-hand branch, which is now being worked with payable results between No?. 3 and 4 levels, is intact between oNs. 2 and 3 levels, making a total block on, each branch 21011 in height. In the Old Hauraki Gold Mining Company's mine the country in the intermediate level is of a favourable description, and there ie .occasionally a little more quartz showing in the footwal' seam, and more water is coming tronr tho face. These tin* manager .-'thinks, aro indinations of c large body of quarte at no great distance ahead. In the crosscut water is stil' coming from the face, hut there are so-far no indications of a lode ill t]*» footwall. The work is ,o be discontinued, and the rmiir drive on the lode pushed an. At the 220 ft level nice colours and dabs of gold were seen on breaking down the branch of No. ?. lode, in the drive south from the rise. The .ountry has been tight, ,|ij;t is now changing. At the 100 ft level 3lb 'of picked stone were secured last week, in the me'on the lead near No. 7 lode, and at the hist breaking down colours and dabs of gold era showing in some of the quarts. GOLDEN SPARK G.M. CO. The rise on the hangingwal] leader in the Colder Spark mine is up 5211, and the leader shows gold at each breaking down. From appearances picked stono might be mot with *t any time. ; HAURAKI No. ? G.M. CO. . In the Hauraki No. 2 Gold Mining Company's mine SO the winze the hangingwall leade. is Sin wide. The stone looks very well, • and the country is improving as the winze goes down. • HARBOUR VIEW G.M. CO. ' 'Tlie main crosscut in the- Harbour View mine is in 455 ft. The reef is not yet to hand, but should be cut any shift-. Calcite and quartz "stringers arc crossing the face, and the watei is increasing. The country is very tight, and shows a good class of mineral. In the : Intermediate level in the Associated section the leads have come together, and form ' a. nice compact body ©f stone, though not yet payable. In the root about 10ft back from the face the ore shows a lit e gold, and a vise has been started here. Picked stone may be got-at any breaking down. Overhead of these workings the results have so fax been poor. ' V+4& OAK G.M. CO. Birring the past fortnight :he drive north at the D level ill the Royal Oak mine has ; kwv extended Bft, and 101b of picked stone ■ were secured, whilst 4Qlb came to hand from the stones. The drive ii should soon be through the hard bar. In the stopes here 301b •of r nicked stone, some showing colours suit" dabs, came to hand. Tho reef in the drive iu No. 7 level is from 6in to Bin wid° composed of very nice, quarts and minerals, and "the country is interlaced with mineral veins. The battery crushed 52 tons, which gave 670z of amalgam, whilst £01b of picked stone yielded 80oa of amalgam. About 100 tons of general dirt is on handWAIHI EXTENDED G.M. CO. i. In the haugingwnll .'section of the »'eef tLrere is some nice looking Quartz, but the greatci part of this portion is rather mnllor.ky looking.- The preparatory • work in connection with the shaft : - steadily being fixed up, and the manager will' shortly be in a position to start sinking. Most of the material required foi tho shaft, is at hand, but there are a few things yet to be done before sinking can bo begun.
