The Education Committee has considered ta- Teachers' Salaries Amendment Bill, and ; . recommend that it be allowed to proceed, with certain amendments. The committee has not made any alteration in the proposed scale of salaries, but has amended the second schedule so that teachers of schools of ovei eigh' (instead of over 10) and not over 20, shall receive a house allow>y- ance of £10. THE LOAN BILL. The Loan Bill provides for a loan of £750,000, and the maximum rate of interest proposed is 4A per cent. Oi the total tmount £275,000 is in respect of the following railways:—Kawakawa - Graham- ) town, Helcnsville Northwards, PaeroaWaihi, viisborne-Karaka, Egmout branch, Stratford-Kawakawa, Marton-Te Awamutu, -Blenheim-Waipara, Midland, Greymouth- . Hokitik.i (extension to Ross), NgahereBlackball, Otago Central, Heriot extension, Catlins-Seaward Bush, Riversdale-Switzers, and permanent way or othei materials. For ; additional rolling stock for open lines and . ■ such other works and purposes as may be auj • thori3ed, £75,000 is proposed to be expended.
