On Friday night, during the temporary absence of the police, a band of larrikins took charge of the town. ' THE ordinary monthly meeting of the PukeKara Road Board was held at Cam bridge on, Friday last, there being present: Messrs. B. Fisher (chairman),, E.. .Reynolds, i and. i Jas. Keeley. A protest,'signed by about 30 rate-' payers residing on the western side of Walker's gully, was 'received. It was in, opposition t» the levy which the Board proposed to accept as the contribution of their part of the district towards the cost ;of ■ the' proposed Cambridge high-level bridge. The Board passed the following resolution " That the Board acted in the best interests of the district with regard to the erection of the cantilever bridge, and has tin* support of a considerable number of ratepayers interested." The clerk reported that he had collected all the rates except a penny. The balance-sheet for the year was submitted and adopted; It showed a credit balance of £187 13s lid, an increase of £30 over the previous year's balance. A number of new works were sanctioned, and tenders will be called.

The ceremony, which took place in the Masonic flail, was conducted by ft.W. Brother M. McLean, P.G-.S. -• The presenting officers were Wor. Brothers A. Swarbnck, P.M., and G.M. A. Ahier, P.M.,' The W.M. (Brother Perry) was then installed in the chair of King Solomon in accordance with ancient custom by tne,Board of Installed Masters, and the lodge resumed. investiture of officers was proceeded with as follows:— Wor. 1 On Wednesday evening last the re smbers of the local football club held their annual social hi the Town Hail. There rasa-' fair attendance, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The Waipa Rugby Union's caps, which were won by the < local team last season, were presented to the playerfi by Mrs. Win. Taylor, who also, on behalf r>f the Te i Awamutu Club, presented a pipe each to the Messrs. Burke brothers, and Mr. W. Hogg with acigaretle-liolder. Mr. P. Jtewburn's medal for the best all-round phyer was awarded to Mr. F. Bowden. ! ■ ; " The treasurer of the Waikato Wsst vicarage fund has received a cheque of £7 16is 3d from the ■ Te Awamutu Dramatic Club towards the building fund, being the proceeds of the play, "Handy Andy," recently per- , formed by the club. The bowling jrreen will be formally opened on Wednesday afternoon by the president (Mr. H. Irvine). Much interest is bang taken in the formation of the bowling ch.b. . The Lawn Tennis Club's season w*,* opened on Saturday ■ last, when close on 39 members were present. The weather was fiati and the lawn in first-class ordei. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. Owing to the large ihciease ii membership it was decided to lay down another sand court, ; ,1 vote of thanks was accorded to Captain Beckett for' the use of the grounds, and also tc= the outgoing officers. v .',•■
