Some oil the Auckland clubs will officially open the season on Saturday; next. in Grafton lawns will be opened in, conjunction with the Auckland Bowling Club s function. It is pleasing to hear that the authorities of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association will this vear leave no stone unturned bring about- a revival of interest in the game this season. A. F. Wilding, of Canterbury, beat Mr. H. M. Staeb (6—l, 6-2). In the third round, played on Wednesday, the ISew .jZ~land player Was again successful, beating •1 Jenkinson (6—3, 6— In the fourth round, which came off on Thursday, .Mr. "Wilding beat Mr. H. S. Mahony (7—5, 6-4), while agr.ir> xrt the semi-final round, the ->cw Zealand player beat Mr. Grant (6—2, B—4). In the final round, however, _ which cams off yesterday Mr. Wilding- was beaten by Mr. S. H. Smith (6-2, 6—3, *—1); In the first round of the Gentlemen s Open Doubles, Mr. A. F. Wilding and Mr. H. fc>. Mahony beat Mr. J. W. Jenkins and Mr. E. H. Follow (6—l, 6—l). In the second round Mr. Mahonv and Mi. Wilding beat Mr. AI-'. Beamish" and Mr. C. Hartley (6—l, I) 4). in the third rounr Mr. H. S. Mahony and Mr. A. F. Wilding were successful against Mr. W. V, Eaves and Mr. C. B. Sharpe, the scores being 2— 6— 6— ( The second round of the Ladies' and Gentlemen's Open Doubles was played en Thursday, and again Mr. Wilding was on the winning side. With his partner, Miss Hilly arc], he beat Mr. F. W. Goldberg and Miss A. Farrington, the soores being 6—2,
