AQUATICS.
The annual meeting of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron took place ob Thursday evening, and was largely attended, considerable interest being taken, in the proceedings. The flag officers and committee are to be cordially congratulated upon the successful manner in which the* have carried out the business of the club during the past year, as it is no doubt owing to f the care and attention which they have given to matters that the club is in the splendid position which it occupies now. The sails for the new yacht Ariki have arrived from England. The annual meeting of West End Rowing dub takes place in the clubhouse, St. Mary's Bay, on the evening of the 30th inst. I am glad to see that Mr. Alexander Alison, the genial owner of Volunteer, has been elected vice-coinmodor© of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, as his knowledge of the sport will prove of great assistance and service to the club. Two handsome photographic shields of the regatta winners and this season's committee of West End Rowing Club are on view in the windows of Messrs. E. O. Brown and Co., Queen-street. The annual meeting of the Pa.raeltl Sailing Club will take place at the Exchange Hotel, Parnell, en th« evening of the 30th inst. West End Rowing Club have sold one of their inrijjged fours to the newly-formed rowing club at Grahamtown, Whaugarei. The boat was gent away this week. West End have now disposed of most of their old plant to malke room for the four new outrigged fours which arrived recently from Melbourne. In future the club will hold all their trial fours in outriggers instead of inriggers as previously. Mr. F. Kunst, of Ponsonby, late owner of Psyche, has purchased the well-known yacht Toroa from Mr. George Seagar, and will during the coming season fly the flag of the Ponsonby Cruising Club. As usual, Mr. S. W. Buck wild accompany the Toroa in the position of sailing master. ' The coming yachting season, especially up Ponsonby way, promises to be an unusually busy one. There are itbout a dozen boat's of different classes being built in the district, and if even a small portion of the rumours which one hears about them is correct, then the "cracks" of last season are in for what is known as a particularly " torrid" time of it. A well-known yachting enthusiast sends me the following, which I cordial'" encorse:— "Now that the season is fast approaching, I would like to see something done by the yacht and sailing clubs by way of catering a little for the public. With our fine harbour and splendid fleet of sailing craft, the public interest in this grand sport is shocking. It is time our yachtsmen awoke, to the fact. I would suggest that large distinguishing numbers be carried on the luff of th« mainsail, such number to hold good for all clubs and at all times, and boats to tw known by such number. Handicaps to bo given at start.. A few cheap programmes distributed on the beaches would not be out of the way. The annual meeting in connection with I, ™?? M ' üby oruisin >f Club takes place on uie <js»,n mst. The following nominations have been received for the respective offices tor the ensuing year:-President, Messrs. A. i™P' au 4 W - Romany; commodore, Mr. vt. Wilson: vice-commodore, Mr. F. Kunst: rear-commodore, Mr. A. Cook; treasurer. Air. i. lilomiield; secretary, Mr. A. Hewsou. Lynx.
