Witheford, M.E.E. for Auckland City,was a passenger to New Plymouth Jby the Karawa. yesterday, en. route for Wellington. • - General Babington, Commandant of the New Zealand forces, left for New Plymouth J yesterday;; by the Rarawa, en route for Wellington. Mr. P. Trembath {Mayor of Thames) and Mr. Theo. Wood, also of the Thames, left 'for Wellington yesterday, to attend the sittings of the Municipal Conference. Mr. S. C. Brown (Auckland city councillor), and Mr. J. Farrell (Mayor of Grey Lynn) arrived in Wellington on Saturday, to attend the Municipal Conference. The Hon. 'Mahuta, ML.C, was in Auckland on Saturday, with Mr. Henare Kaihau and other Waikato chiefs. He leaves for Wellington on Wednesday next, to attend the session. r Mr. J. D. McKenxie left Whangarei on Saturday (writes our correspondent) by the Ngapuhi, en route to Wellington, to attend a conference of members of charitable aid boards. Mr. W Jaqnes, the fruit-canning expert, who recently arrived from England under engagement to the New Zealand Government, will leave Wellington this week, for the purpose of making himself acquainted with the capabilities of the various fruitgrowing districts in the colony. The Hons. Seymour Thome George and W. Beehan, M.L.C.'s, arrived from Wellington, on Saturday. The Hons. Sir G. M. O'Rorke, Sir A. J. Cadman, , Major Harris, T. Feldwick, and Holmes, M.L.C.'s, arrived . yesterday from Wellington, the Legislative Council having been adjourned till July 27. Miss E. dark, daughter of the Rev. J. Clark, was on Saturday presented by the employees of H. Ml Smeeton, Limited, with a souvenir on her leaving the firm, after being connected with it for seven" years. Mr. Martin, the secretary, made the presentation, and Mr. By croft replied on Miss Clark's behalf. • The many friends of Mr. H. W. Hudson (Messrs. L. D. Nathan and Co.'s office manager) will be sorry to hear he is likely to.be confined to his bed for some time. We understand that an injury received to his knee when at school, and from which be has since suffered more or less, now calls for further treatment.
