AQUATICS.

WEST END ROWING CLUB. The annual " prize night" in connection with the West End Rowing Club was held on Friday evening last. The chair was occupied by Mr. Thomas Peacock, patron of the club, supported by Mr. A. Kohn (a vice-president) and'other gentlemen. The spacious building was filled, the fair sex, principally young ladies, largely predominating. The top floor was nicely decorated with Chinese lanterns, flags of all nations, and red, white, and blue drapery, presenting a charming appearance. The supper was laid out in the lower part of the boathouse, and at the conclusion of the vocal and instrumental programme, which was highly_appreciated by the guests, an adjournment "was mad© to supper, and visitors were loud in their praises of the club's hospitality. Songs were rendered by Messrs. C. Stokes.. J. P. Whelan, B. Sand ford, and Whyte, and recitations given by Messrs. A. R. Bailey, G. S. Bullen,, and A. McE'lwain. Mr. Whyte gave a cornet solo. All the items were highly appreciated. A very efficient orchestra, led by Mr. La nig an, played several choice selections during the evening. The accompaniments were ably played by Miss Quin and Mr. G. Shor'/and. The various prizes won during the past season by regatta and trial-four crews were handed over to the respective winners, viz.: Trophies of Mr. T. Peacock (patron), Mr. McLean (president), Mr. A. Kohu (vice-president), trophies and Kohn shields, the latter being pinned on to the coats of the winners by Airs. M. Fairs (one of the most consistent of West End's lady helpers), and the club trophies to the men who worn successful at the regatta contests of the past season. An interesting feature of the evening not on the programme— was th** presentation of Klondike nugget breast pins to Messrs. S. M. Barry (lion. secretary and treasurer), J. F. Lowry, and J. Clark, by Mr. A. Kohn (vice-president), as marks of esteem from himself to the recipients. Addressing Messrs. Lowry and Clark, he said that it afforded him the greatest pleasure to give a little mark of his esteem to two such veterans of the club; and to Mr. Barry he said that it was a :\mall recognition of the invaluable services rendered the club by that young man in his dual capacity of secretary and treasurer. Mr. Clark responded on behalf of the recipients. The evening wound up with a danco programme, to which most of the young people stayed for a few hours. Miss R. Edwards and Mr. Rooney contributing the music.
