PILOT DENNIS PRACTICALLY BLIND. Memjotfkne, June 25. According to the statement of Captain Read, of R.M.s. Australia, at the preliminary inquiry, he was standing on 'the starboard side of the bridge, watching the lights when nearing the entrance to Port Philip, and considered the course a safe one till shortly before the vessel struck. He then noticed the proximity of the land, but before he could turn or alter his course, she had grounded. Pilot Dennis exclaimed: "All my fault." The tain and the second mate assert that they noticed nothing unusual in the manner or behaviour of Pilot Dennis to indicate that he was suffering in any way. Two oculists, wh.fi have examined PilotDennis, have pronounced him to be practically blind.. _____
