Tpu monthly meeting of .the Auckland; Crown lands Board: was held yesterday. ■ In; the ah* sence of tile Commissioner (Mr. J. McKenzie). Mr. J. Renshaw presided, the other membera present being: Messrs. If. ■W. • Aroist?,i' AR. Harris, and H. J. Greenslade,;;Mr. 'XeeWe,',. secretary to the Board), was also present. Timber Licenses: The f Mitehelson Timber Company was granted a renewal of its timberfloating license on the Wairoa. River and ita branches. A 12-months' extension of Messrs. Foot* Brothers' right to remove timber off a section in' the Opuawhanga district; waa granted, the ground rent being fixed at £14,; The former company also got a lease over li acres in the Herekino Block at an annual rental of £2 a year for a timber-loading site for vessels. • .---'-' \~-%:\<t.-i;--™*-j : -'>;'* > --j':\-- ) :' :> , Reserves: It was decided to set aside three areas of 500, 375, and 450 acres each* in the Waiotahi parish, and 650 acres in the Waimama parish as bush reserves. ' Section- 6, block 7, Mangamuha, containing lOu acres, has been set aside as a primary education reserve, and section 218, parish of Pareiaoremo, as a recreation reserve, Mr. Harris and M?. Greenslade pointed out the uanger of such reserves! becoming covered with noxious ; weeds. The chairman said it was intended, as far as possible, to place these reserves wilder the control I of local bodies, but Mr. Harris considered that these bodies bad quite enough to do at present. Mr. Cassrelr application ■•; for a. ; library reserve at Paeroa,, was further adjourned. , . „ Application for Mining License: Applies.-* tions were received from R. Montgomery and E. Bain to mine on a small leasehold held by Bid. Wright at Owharoa. : As the case was the first of the kind received, H»» matter was left over till the Commissioner (who is at present in Wellington) returns. >. ~. - '! , Bickerstaffe Estate: It was ;resolved; to withdraw for the present, the remaining area* in the Biokerstaffe estate, and to re-open them in September. It was stated that the Stock Department was placing 1000 head of cattle on the estate for fattening purposes. Measurement of Timber: Mr.: Greenslade referred to the necessity for the regulations in regard to the measurement of timber by Crown rangers .being strictly carried out. He had nothing to: say against the present arrangement, but he believed that in we past there bad been some laxity in the matter. Major Lusk, who was present, stated that th* hatter had lately been under $ consideration with the result that it had been placed under his- personal supervision, M<r. Greeaalade said this arrangement was quite satisfactory.*
