CLAIM FOR TWOPENCE.
POSTAL DEPARTMENT APPEAR AS PLAINTIFFS. Quite an unusual rase was called before Mr. 0, 0. Kettle, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, the plaintiff being the Postmaster-General, the defendant Harold Moses, and the amount at stake 2d, due upon an unstamped letter. Mr. S. Mays, who appeared for the Crown Solicitor, mentioned that the amount claimed had been paid into Court, along with 15s coats. The Department's reason for taking the action was to determine whether the sender was responsible for the postage on ar unstamped letter, and because Moses had defied the Department again and again and had told them to "go on and prosecute." He applied for special costs under appendix C of the rules of the Magistrate's Court, by which special costs could be allowed when the case was one of "public importance." He submitted that it was one of "public importance." The Magistrate said that before lie could do this the defendant would have to be given notice of the application "for special costs." The case was then adjourned for a week so that Moses might be given notice.
