During the Inst session of. the New Zea« land Parliament the waiter introduced a Bill for the control of the coastwise trade of New Zealand, placing certain, restrictions .upon foreign vessels carrying cargo on the, New Zealand coast. The Bill passed by the , . New Zealand Parliament provides that ..it shall not apply to any country which does ■;'**' not restrict the carrying of passengersor ■' cargo on its coast by British teasels. Clause , 2of the Bill reads as follows: "If it appears 1 to the Governor that Brinish ships are subject in any foreign country to any prohibition or restriction as".to the carrying of;, gonitis "coastwise in that country, he may, by Order-in-Council, impose such prohibitions ' or {restrictions!, upn the ships of that country as jfco carrying goods coastwise in New Zealand, or carrying goods from.any port inNew Zealand to any port or In any other part of the British possessions, as appear to ■, him "justly to countervail the disadvantages - v to which British ships are subject as aforesaid," ( "
