MAGISTRATE'S C0URT..,../ A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was hold before Mr. 0. C. Kettle, S.M., on Friday. A Country Hotel Case: A claim for £13 lis, services rendered and expenses incurred, was" made- by Harry and Kato Herigan against the Waiwera Hotel Company. The counsel appearing.in the case were Mr. Blair. foi the plaintiffs, and Mr. McVeagh, for the defendants. The defence, while admitting the amount of wages due, disputed the other items," on the grounds that they were unnecessary, and that the plaintiffs, in thenservice, need not have incurred the debts. His Worship, after hearing the evidence, took this view also, and gave judgment for the plaintiffs for £9 12s only. The defendant? counter-claimed £10 7s 3d, representing goods supplied to guests at the hotel and to plaintiffs themselves, which they said the plaintiffs had never been given permission to supply. Drunkenness: Two first-offenders for drunkenness appeared, and these, on pleading guilty, wore convicted and fined 5s each and costs. ■ ■ t . ,•■ . , Alleged Theft: A charge of stealing jewellery to the value of £17 16s from the dwellinghouse of Peter Lawrenoe Gomez in Grey-street was preferred against Archibald Manson Bwen. Sub-Inspector Black applied for a remand until Friday next, as he said the offence had only been committed the previous day. The prisoner had been staying in the house of the informant, a coffee-stall-keeper, and on Friday morning, when Gome?! returned from his work, he found that one of his chests, in which some jewellery had been placed, had been broken into. The jewels were missing, and the accused, the only person in the house, was still there. The property had not, yet been recovered, however. His Worship granted the subinspector's application. „. _ . — Alleged Theft from a Sailor: On Chief-De-tective Grace's application, William Brock was remanded to Napier on a charge of stealing £11 in money and a Seamen's Union book, the property of a sailor nmeel Chris.
