TE AWAMUTU TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Town Board was held on Thursday evening. There were present: Messrs. J. B. TeavJale (chairman), S. Matthews, T. Gibson, and G. Ahier. The attention of the Board wan drawn to the unsatisfactory running of the trains on the Main Trunk line between Frankton Junction and Taumarunni. The half-past two p.m. mall train was constantly behind time. The poor accommodation provided" on this section of the line was also discussed. It was decided to endeavour to have the goods train to. To Awamutu delayed an hour or so later, which would give farmer* and others more time when attending the Hamilton and Ohanpo sales. Sir Joseph Ward's attention will be drawn to th ■ matter. It was resolved to collect subscriptions towards the battleship New Zealand. The chairman reported that the lowest tender had been accepted for the work on Park Boad. Messrs. Hancock and Co., of Auckland, wrote, with reference to the complaints made about the Commercial Hotel drain. They considered the Board's application for assistance reasonable, and had communicated with Mr. Bathurst. Mr. Matthews reported that a further supply Of cement had been ordered to complete the concrete kerbiiif.'. It was resolved to erect the hoarding between the business places of Messrs. Lyons and Cooper. The following accounts were passed for pavment:—Bearsley, £911s fld; Byarave and Co., £10 lCs Cd; .T. Merryweather. 19s_ 63; Stncdley, £8; Thames Gas Company. £9 14s 3d; U. Teasdaltf, *3 Ss; caretaker, .':ii 1S« W; cement and freight, £10 13s Gd.
