HARDY'S WAIORON GQM AI MINES. A COMPANY FLOATED. The sale of Mr.' E. H. Hardy's group of mines, battery, etc., at Waiorongomni lias been effected. We are informed by Mr. C J. Hutchinson, of Messrs. Hutchinson and Abbott, that he has successfully floated the property into a limited company, to be called Hardy's Mines, Limited, the whole of the 16,000 shares offered having been subscribed. The sum of £5000 will be at once expended in development and in increasing the battery power. The 14,000 shares which have been reserved will then be offered to shareholders at par, and'the proceeds used for still further extensions. The new company takes over the property as from the Ist inst. ROYAL OAK G.M. CO. The Royal Oak Gold Mining Company yesterday secured 40ib of picked stone, making the total on hand sine© the last crushing about 6cwt. In addition the company have 13cwt of stone, showing colours and dabs of gold., ami 250 tons of general dirt The alterations to the battery are nearly completed, and it is anticipated that the crushing material on hand will be commenced upon at the mill on Monday or Tuesday next. The whole of the ore will be put through. The picked stone has come principally from the drives on the reef, in each of which it has been driven upon a little over 200 ft. This indicates that in the two levels the.run of gold has been proven for move than 200 ft, besides giving a large block between the levels for sloping.

XE.v UNA G.M. CO. In the New Una Gold Mining Company's mine a great flow of water is still coming from the bangingwall portion of the reef in the north end of the drive. Driving south on the line of lode lias been proceeding. and here the ore-body is fully 20in wide. The quartz is of a very kindly description. carrying favourable minerals and colours of gold are frequently seen. In this end also a quantity of water is coming from the roof and the face. Quartz is being grassed in the paddock for treatment.

WAIIII G.M. CO. [BY TKLKGRAI'H. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Wednesday, The large Cornish pump installed at No. 5 level of the Wailii Gold Mining Company's mine had a short test this afternoon in the presence of several officials of the company. The machinery was .set in motion by Mr. F. Roche, who is responsible for the expeditious installation of what is believed to be the finest pumping plant in the Australasian colonies. The pump was only running about two strokes a minute, and was lifting a tremendous volume of water at each stroke from a depth of 700 ft. when an .unfortunate mishap occurred down the shaft, one of the large pipes having burst with the pressure. The pipe will have to be replaced before a proper trial of the plant can be completed, 'but there is no doubt, judging by the short initial run to-day that the machinery will do all the work expected of it, and that the company will have no water difficulty to contend with in their deep level operations. The exploitation of the deeper levels is, I understand, to be undertaken immediately. One of the first steps will be the sinking of the No. 5 shaft. The company's foundry at Waikitio is also completed, and castings are now being made at the works. PROPOSED TEACHERS' TRAILING COLLEGE. t ■' J EDUCATION BOARD COMMITTEE'S . REPORT.
