AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.
As ordinary meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon, there being present: Messrs. J. T. Julian (chairman), J. H. WiUeford, M.H.H., G. W. Basley. J. A. Walker. W. J. Barker, A. Alison, W. J. W. I'iulson, O. D. Grey, and A. E. Glover.
A Proposed Buoy: The Marino Department wrote asking whether the Board had any objection to the granting of tho application of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron for permission to place a buoy off Maraet-ai Point. The Board approved of the buoy being placed at the spot indicated. The Colony's Defences: A letter was received from Mr. Alex. Joyce, of Christchurch, enclosing a copy of a requisition to the Government, asking that in view of the present state of affairs in Europe and the East the defences of the colony be materially strengthened, especially at the principal ports and coalfields. This requisition is the outcome of the public meeting recently held at Christchurch in connection with the matter referred to. The letter was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. Adjustment of Compasses: Captain Adamsou, adjuster of compasses, wrote asking that * portion of the scrub on Bangitoto be cut, in order to give an uninterrupted view of the centre peak of Brown's Island from Drunken Bay. It was stated that the matter was one for the Dsvonport Borough Council to deal with, and the letter was accordingly referred to that body.
Ho-street Reclamation: Messrs. R. B. Martin and Co. wrote asking to be relieved of their contract for the HohsonBtr&et Breastwork and to be paid for the work done. It was pointed out that it was eight months sines work on (he contract had been suspended. Tlie matter was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. , !
Works and Tariff Committee: Tho'following recommendation s ; of the Works and Tariff .Committee were adopted:—That Mr. B. Holland be informed test having been granted permission by the Board to remove sand from HobsonvUie Beach, ho one is authorised to interfere. That the chairman be authorised to cause such t temporary work on the King's Drive Roadway as may bo required for traffic.. Watar supply for shipping: Engineer's report &s to bore for water supply, together with Mr. Kirkwood's report thereupon, having been read, it was resolved, "That the engineer be instructed to discon fcinue any further boring operations."
