The Motueka Fruitgrowers' Society lias received advice that sulphurised raspberries shipped to London realised £37 per ton, and black currants £52. The report states that there is a strong demand. The total output for the past season was 240 tons. This does not include the small fruits disposed of to jam manufacturers and others in the colony. The potato crop at Motu, Poverty Bay, is almost a failure this season. Generally ■ speaking (says the Poverty Bay Herald), the tubers appear on the surface to be perfectly sound, but when cut they exhibit streaks of a brownish colour. When boiled , the colour increases, and also produces a hardness and noxious odour. Some persons attribute this disease to the land being too rich, others to an over amount of wet. ' The refusal of the Government to make provision for the payment of rates on the Argyll Settlement. Hawke's Bay, is greatly exercising the Waipawp County Council. Last week the chairman of the Council (Mr. juil) waited upon the Ministei for Lands in reference to the attitude of the Government in the matter. He pointed out that the Government had mad" similar payments in respect of the , Hatums and Forest Gate properties. Mr. Duncan promised to give the subject, full consideration.
