. «> ■ —- '■" The ordinary monthly meeting of the Cambridge Road Board wa3 held on Saturday last, there being present: Messrs. M. Butler (in the chair), J. Allwill, O. Lake, and S. Cowling. • Goodwood Road: Mr. Lund waited on the Board with reference to the formisg of this road. The Government having placed a sum on the Estimates for the Fenoourt Road, it was decided to communicate with them. Trees Overhanging Roads: The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote in reply to. the Board's letter, informing them that the Crown tenants were not permitted to remove trees from Crown lands without first obtaining the consent of the Land Board. However, at the next meeting of the Land Board he-would obtain a general consent, so that whenever the Board wished trees to be felled it could be done. ■'■'. Closing Roadway: It. was decided to grant the request of the Waikato Central A. and P. Association to close Victoria Road crossing, opposite Mr. Jas. Taylor's, on the second dav of the show.- , Petition: Seven ratepayers petitioned the Board, asking that it would cause the fence (at the creek, near the sandpit at Tautapu) to be opened, so that the publio might have free use of the water. A lengthy discussion ensued, it being finally decided to refuse the request. ' ' ■ -.-■■. Subsidy: The Treasury Department notified the Board that subsidy, amounting to £92 ss, had been paid into the Board's credit at the bank. ... Level Crossing: It was agreed that if the settlers would contribute £10 towards putting in this crossing, the Board would find the balance. Tenders: The following were opened— ! 1. road formation, Hall's Corner to Butter's: Only one tender was received, and being considered too high, it was decided to call for fresh tenders. No. 2. road formation on Hamilton-Cambridge Road, from Forrest's to Ratt's Corner: J. T. Goodwin. 4s per i yard (accepted); T. H. Kelly, 4s 6d. No. 3, I cleaning out Selby's drain: A. McCann, 2s !2d por chain (accepted); E. Hall, 3s. No. 4, : draining, Pukeroro Road, from the outlet to Ratt's Corner: A. McCann, Is 4£d per chain; Hall. Is lid. New Works: The surfaceman was instructed to do some necessary work on the Goodwood Road, near the sohoolhouse, and also to effect some repairs to the flume road. It was agreed to notify the Commissioner of Crown lands of the Board's intention to sell some kauri timber, pipes, etc., at present lying on the flume road. It was resolved to call tor tenders for gravelling about 800 yds of roadway, from Martya's gully to the Bruntwood boundary. The surfaceman was instructed that in future he must, after heavy rains, inspect the Narrows and Leslie's Hill, and employ labour, if necessary. .Ho was also instructed, tc plough and level the roadway from Day's factory to the Tamahere Church corner. The Blind 'Road fs also to receive attention in the way of gravelling. Tenders for some of the above are to be returnable on Saturday week. ; Finance: The treasurer reported that the overdraft, when accounts are paid, stood at '£82.. Scarcity of Labour: Mention was made of the difficulty of securing labour, the Chairman saying the time was not far distant when the Board would have to employ another good regular hand, and make and maintain roads with their own employees. One member remarked that labour was a long way dearer than it used to be.
