Capetown, and Hobart, is due at this port to-morrow. THE MOURA. The Union Company's steamer Moura. which is to replace the Eotokino in the AucklandFiji trade, was to leave Dunedin fbi West- • port yesterday to load coal for this port. The steamer is timed to leave Auckland for Fiji on the 24th inst. THE FAZILKA. The British India Company's steamer Fafcilka went tc an anchorage in the stream yesterday afternoon, and leaves for Wellington and the South at 4 a.m. to-day with original cargo from Calcutta. THE QUATHLAMBA. 1 The barque Quathlamba will be floated out j of the Calliope Dock this morning and will berth at the Hobson-street Wharf to load timber for Adelaide. THE GANYMEDE. Mr. G. V. Edgcuro.be is in receipt of advices stating that the barque Ganymede arrived at Fremantle ironi Auckland on Tuesday last, after a lengthy passage of 65 days. THE HAWEA. The Union Company's steamer Hawea. Captain W. Stevens, arrived from Southern and East Coast ports at 10.30 a.m. yesterday, berthing at Quav-strect Jetty No. 2 to disoharse her ' cargo of grain and produce. Mr. W. B. Cunningham, the purser, reports that the steamer left the Bluff on the Bth inst... and called at : Oamaru. Timaru. Napier, and Gisborne. Lett the latter port at midnight on Saturday, and arrived as above. Strong head winds and 'moderate seas prevailed from Timaru to Napier, and from East Cape to Cuvier Island a moderate north-west gale and heavy sea; thence to arrival fine weather. The Hawea ; leaves for tho Bluff, Oamaru, ami Timaru at 5 p.m. to-day.

THE COOGEE. The repairs to the steamer Coogee, which was badly damaged in the collision with the Fortunate- Figarl, axe proceeding rapidly at Melbourne The masts have been re-erected, . and the funnel placed In position. A new smoke bos has been found necessary, and two new ventilators have been put in connecting the engine-room with the deck. The new lifeboats and rafts have been hoisted aboard. The rafts, which were a good deal heavier ' than the boats, are wooden decks between two lons airtight cylinders. No fewer than 33 men were required to hoist them on board, a3 there was no steam power available. FIRES ON SHIPS. A paper on fires on shipboard, their causes, and methods for prevention and extinction, was recently read by Mi. Q. Canning before the Junior Institution of Engineers, London, Ml. Canning stated that during the ten years ended 1302 statistic? showeu that 129 steamers and 255 sailing ships were totally lost by fire, and during the four months ending October last 167 fire casualties were reported, including the total loss of 14 steamers, five sailers, and two yachts. About 65 per cent, of the total fire casualties occurred on steamers, and 35 ,jer cent, on sailing ships. Of the total outbreaks. 37.5 per cent, was in general merchandise cargoes, 17.1 per cent, in coal cargoes 14 per cent, in cotton, wool, and jute cargoes, 5.8 per cent, in grain cargoes, 5.6 per cent, in wood cargoes, and 3.5 per cent, in petroleum cargoes. THE RAKAIA. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Rakaia is due at Auckland from the South next week to complete her loading for London, this being the final port of departure in the colony. The steamei is timed to leave on hei voyage on the 27th inst. THE KAIPARA. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Kaipara finished taking in her consignments of wool, kauri gum, flax, etc., for London last evening, and leaves for Gisborne and Southern ports at 4 a.m. to-day to continue her loading.
