BOROUGH COUNCILS.
GREY LYNN.
A SPECIAL meeting of the Grey Lynn Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor (Mr. .J. W. Shackelford), presided, and there were also present: Messrs. Farred. Currio, Diuvery, Creamer, Proud, Thomas, Dumper, and Smith. The following tenders were received for the Tennysonstreet culvert:—folia Rule, £174; Win. Mendrv, £197 17s 6d; Win. Lovett, £204- 10s; .las. Larkin, £205 10s; das. McOree, £254. Mr. Ride's tender was accepted. The engineer's estimate for the work, was £205. For drainage and formation works in Rose Road, Disraeli-street, Chamberlain-street, and Leigh ton-street, the following; tenders were received:--- Win. Lovett, £555 6s 6d; Geo. Knight, £659 14s 4d: Wm. Hendry, £698 5s 4d; .la.s. MeGee, £952 8s 2d; and dames Lark in, £955 8s bd. The engineer's estimate for the work was £5£3. It was decided to postpone consideration of these tenders for a week. On the recommendation of the Streets Committee, it was decided to call tenders for the formation of 750 ft of Mur- i doch Road. PARNELL. An ordinary meeting of the Parnell Bo- ' rough Council was held last, evening, under j the presidency of the Mayor (Mr. J. Fitt), ' there being also present: Messrs. Thornes, ! Brings, Foster, Slater, l'etford, Basley, Fowler, and Beale. Insanitary Sewer: The insanitary condition of the outlet of the sewer in Mechanics' Bay was considered, and it was decided to communicate with Dr. Makgill, the District Health Officer, in the matter. Eire Statior 'Rhone: A communication was received from the Auckland Telegraph Office, calling attention to the use of the telephone at the Parnell Fire Brigade station by unauthorised persons, and asking for steps to bo taken to have the irregularity discontinued. The matter was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee. Manukau Road: The Mayor stated that the time was opportune for the Council to decide whether the kerbing of the footpath in Manukau Road, from the Exchange Hotel to Gilbert's corner, should be placed in a straight line or continued to be crocked. The matter was deferred until after a visit to the locality by the members of the Council. Later it was decided, on the motion of Mr. Basley, "That the footpath on the eastern side of Manukau Road, from St. Stephen's Road, southward, be properly made, pitched, channelled, and kerbed with the kerbs now being taken up en the Manukau Road, as far as they will reach." Water Consumption : The turncock reported that the consumption of water during the past fortnight had been 1.014. gallons. Houso-to-House Inspection: The inspector of nuisances presented a report on his house-to-house visitation of a portion of the borough. He had inspected 420 houses, and had lound that the great majority of yards were clean and tidy. Where adverse reports were made, it was invariably the tenant who was to blame. The report was referred to the Sanitary Committee.
Proposed Transference of Office: A motion' by Mr. Potford to the effect that the Council office be removed and the building taker down and re-erected on a portion of the Fire Brigade station site, was withdrawn in favour of an amendment. by Mr. Beale, calling for an estimate of the cost of the removal of the present Council oflice, the matter to be left in the hands 01 the Mayor.
