HURRICANE AT FIJI.

Suva, January 21 A SOTTTH-WESTKRI.Y gale developed into & hurricane at midnight in the neighbourhood of Suva. While the barometer was at 29.30, : the wind was not excessive, though persistent. A lew native houses were demolished, and branches of trees litter the town, but no material damage is so far anticipated. The banana plantations suffered rather heavily. The centre ot the storm is calculated to be in the neighbourhood of toe eastern islands of Fiji. The steamers Manapouri and Hamuli are riding out the storm in the harbour. All buildings are barricaded, and business is suspended. The telegraph wires are down between hero and Levuka. There are indications of further seventy. <%
