FISCAL REFORM.

MANIFESTO BY SIR E. HEED.

PERILOUS TO CONTINUE TEE

PRESENT SYSTEM

SPEECH BY LORD ROSEBERY.

FREE TRADE AMENDMENT.

By Telegraph.—Preis Association.—

(Received January 6, 9 '6 p.m.)

London, January 6. Sir Edward Reed, member for Cardiff, has issued a manifesto to hi*; constituents in which he states that lie will not seek re-election on account of age and health. He also presumes that his fiscal views are not acceptable to the bulk of his supporters. He has for a lung time been unable to understand the reasons for destroying industries for the sake of buying a trifle cheaper than others who are excluding us from too world's markets. It would be perilous to continue the present system and ungracious to resist such improvements in the trading system as would encourage the colonies to identify themselves more and more with the Motherland. (Received January 7, 1.12 a.m.) London, January 6. Lord Rosebery, speaking in Edinburgh, said the Government was like a dissolving view. Mr. Deakin's telegram proved that the proposals had not emanated from the colonies or the Government, but from Mr. Chamberlain, whose whole policy was a triangle resting on its apexif it had an apex. The Government was in a hollow, untenable position. London, January 5. The Opposition will at the earliest opportunity submit a comprehensive free trade amendment to the Ad-dress-in-Reply, framed so as to secure the support of the Unionist freefooders. INVITATION TO MR. CHAMBERLAIN. [BY TELEGRAPH. —I'RKSS association.] Napier, Wednesday. The Napier Borough Connci, to-night passed a resolution that the Premier be asked to forward an invitation to Mr. Joseph Chamberlain, M.P., to visit Now Zealand during his tour of the colonies.
