TROTTING.
AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB'S SUMMER MEETING. [by dexter.] The Auckland Trotting Club will continue its meeting to-day at Alexandra Park, and there is every prospect of a most successful afternoon's sport. Though tho fields on the first day were not quite up to expectations from a variety of causes (mainly the horses meeting with casualties), the sport was of a first-class character, as evidenced by the totalisator returns. The acceptances for today are such that good sport is assured, and lovers of a good trotting horse should iake the opportunity of seeing one of the fastest horses in Australasia in Silver Boy race in the mile dash to-day. The following are my selections for the various events: —
Second Maiden Trot: Albertorious, Lady Love, Wanganui. Great Northern Trot : Tho final heat of this raco should produce a most interesting contest. The penalties on the* two winners (Waitekauri and Austerlitz) have brought them so near the scratch horse that they will have all their work to keep out of his way. My selection will bo in favour of Pygmalion, provided that ho is the stable's elect, and if Taihoa runs as woll as he did in the first mile in the Cup he should just about get second place. The Christmas Handicap should result in Gladys Rose or Annoyed supplying the winner. The Summer Cup has an entirely local field of seven engaged. I look to Rosalind to win if she leaves the mark kindly; it not, Typewriter may win. The Tramway Handicap has a good even field of 15 engaged. If both the Southern horses (Pygmalion and Austerlitz) start in the Northern Trot, Snip should win this event, but if one is reserved for this—whichever it may —I should select it to win, as they are a olass above our local crowd engaged in this'race. The Class Trot will probably see Waitekauri in front at the finish, with Lusitania as his nearest attendant.
The Epsom Handiep should produce a good contest, in which Inspiration and Gladys Rosa should take a prominent part. The last race of the day is tho Dash Trot, and with such a good horse a3 Silver Boy has proved himself in Victoria engaged, I shall restrict my selection to one, and depend on him to win. The first raoe is timed to. start at one p.m., and I have been informed that the Tramways Company have made more ample provision, for carrying the publio to and from the races than on the first day, so that with an up-to-date service tho club's patrons will ■have every opportunity of attending the meeting comfortably.
