Evans, the protector of the Chinese in the Straits Settlement, has left Singapore for London. He is proceeding to Cape Colony, having been entrusted with the control of the importation of the Chinese into the Transvaal, if sanctioned. (Received December 29. 11.57 p.m.) Capetown, December 29. At a meeting presided over by tha Mayor of Capetown it was decided to collect funds for the unemployed and j to ask the Government to start conI struction works.
