THE GOLDFILELDS.
THAMES TALISMAN G.M. CO. The contractors in the Thames Talisman mine have now driven 97ft.. Last: week they cut a small "stringer running at a long angle across the drive, and on breaking the stringer down some strong gold was seen in the stone. This the supervisor states looks favourable ■ for the .; reef ; carrying good gold when it is intersected, which may occur any day now, as the drive is already past where the reef was located by. the survey. The country penetrated during the week is a good firm andesite, full of mineralsj with small flinties crossing through it. WAIHI EXTENDED G.M. CO. The drive in the Waihi Extended mine is being steadily pushed ahead. It is now in 207 ft. The manager reports that the country rock met with in the past few days has been harder '■ than previously. There are 200 ft still to go to the boundary, and the manager thinks there is a probability of the reef coming to hand at any time. GRAND JUNCTION G.M. CO. Our Katikati correspondent writes:—Mr. H. L. Simmons, manager ■of • the Grand Junction mine, Waihi, accompanied by Mi. John Chambers, of Auckland, the New Zealand attorney of the company, and Mr. Stewart, electrical engineer, visited the Katikati Heads on Friday, where they met Mr. Vesey Stewart, the chairman, and Mr. Mervvn J. Stewart, the honorary clerk of the' Katikati Domain Board. The Heads contain a reserve of some 200 acres, which has been gazetted under the control and management of the Domain Board. The directors of the Grand Junction Company propose erecting a wharf, electric generating power buildings, and machinery, with houses for employees, and connecting the wharf by an electric tramway with Waihi, and the object of the visit was to finally select a site of 10 acres, having deep water frontage, for j this purpose. The visitors expressed themselves as fully satisfied with all the pro- j Sosals of the domain Board, which Messrs. j Jackson and Moresby, solicitors for the ; company, will forthwith be instructed to erabody in an agreement for the approval of the Domain Board, and final ratification by Government. The interests of the public have been duly protected, as it has been arranged that the wharf shall be at their disposal upon paving to the mine company the same scale of charges as those paid to the Tauranga Borough for the use of the local wharves. -'.. NEW UNA G.M. CO. The manager of the New Una mine, at Thames, reports that good progress is being made with the Old Success low level, and the work is now Hearing the point wnere the Moanataiari' fault 'should be met with, and when this is passed through the junction of the Loyalty and German reefs might be intersected at any time. HAURAKI No. 2 G.M. CO. The'manage, of the Hauraki No. 2 Gold Mining Company, at Coromandel, reports having extended" the drive on the reef 3ft last week. The reef is from 9in to 12in thick, "and the country full of small quartz veins, and looking likely for gold-bearing. . • HARBOUR VIEW.[BY TELEGRAPH-—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Coromandel, Tuesday.
