It is written by an author new to onr readers, though not unknown to fame. The title of this new and attractive story is HELD APART. The author is MR, R. NORMAN SILVER, author of " R"af e, the Destroyer." "A Daugh- . ter of Mystery." " The Golden Dwarf," etc. He is a pleasant writer, and ha 3 the grift of producing well-conceived plots, carried out in the way novel readers like—maintaining a puzzling mystery to the end. I "HELD APART," is one of the mo3fc tani taliaing productions in this respect. One plot after another occurs in such a natural and mysterious way that the reader' sometimes wonders how all the mysteries are to fir.d a solution. In some instances, when the reader anticipates that he knowa it all, and is al-. ■ most ready to wager upon the result, a circumstance mexpectedly occurs which puts ail previous anticipations shy-high. During the course of the story the author 1 leads his readers to many phases of life, in some instances when children of rank mysteriously disappear, and are brought up under conditions quite unexpected. In the various situations which the skilful author creates, there is nothing unnatural, " hut the various events occur in such an easy way that the reader feels they could have not occurred otherwise. t Though it is the firet work from this author which has appeared in own columns, we feel sure that when perused our readers will be pleased to have made the acquaintance of Mr. Silver.
