VICTORIA RIFLES' SHOOTING COMPETITION.

THE Victoria Rifles held a shooting coinpeti-. tion at the Mount Eden Range on Saturday, afternoon for prizes presented by Sergeant O.i Kerr and the Shooting Committee. The conditions were seven shots lying and seven shots! sitting, at'disappearing targets, the targets to be exposed five seconds. Private W. Cox, proved an easy winner of Sergeant Kerr's prize by making the highest possible score iiu each position. The second prize, for members, who had never previously won a trophy, fell to Private T. Schofield after a tie with Privates! Monk and Nairn with eight hits, the former« winning in the fire off. The following are the. scores:—

HUNTLY RIFLES. Staff Sergeant-Major Carpenter visited, Hnntly last Thursday to conduct the theoretic cat examination of the non-commissioned officers of the Hnntly Bifles. The exaniinationi consisted of a paper containing ten questions' on discipline, drill, and duties, and the filling? out of a guard report and a parade state.; The! following submitted themselves for examinaSergeants A. Crowder, G. Edkins, H. J. Wright, St. Clair, Lance-Sergeant A- Turner, Corporals D. Wilson, W. G. Stevenson, A. A. Kay, T. Patterson, Lance-Corporal R. A. McKinn'on.— Correspondent.] PIAKO MOUNTED RIFLES. The Piako Mounted Rifles paraded on Thursday, but owing to inclement weather there was only a moderate attendance. Captain Clifford was in command. The non-coms, present took the practical part of their examination, theoretical work being taken in the evening. Sergeant-Major Coleman was the instructing officer. At the close of the parade it was announced that under the new regulations the corps is entitled to a third lieutenant, and that nominations for the position would be received at the parade on the 22nd inst.—[Own Correspondent.]
