DUNEDIN NOTES.
[BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] DtrxEDiNj Sunday.) A PROLONGED DROUGHT. Tnis spring is probably without parallel in the history of Dunedin and several of the country districts. For the last seven weeks practically no rain has fallen in the Bruce and Taieri districts, and people are crying out for wet weather. Owing to the scarcity of ruin grass and crops are coming .on very slowly, and where sheep have been on turnips the paddocks are filled with dust. Gardens are also suffering from too much sunshine and no rain. The drought is felt worst of all, however, in the- households, the tank water supply having mostly given out. ■ CHURCHGOERS CRITICISED. Reference was made by the Bishop at the Diocesan festival on Friday night to the charge of aloofness levelled by some persons at members of Anglican congregations. Canon Mayne gave it as his opinion that there was a good deal of standoffiskness amongst members—far too much he really thought. He did'not think they should go so far as to have gentlemen acting as M.C.'s and introducing people to each other as deacons or some other persons did at other churches, but members might at least say " good morning" 'to one another. There were, he said, persons who frequented church Sunday aftei Sunday, but walked and passed each other with head high and in a disdainful attitude. ■
