LAND AND INCOME TAX ACT.
[by TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wi:t.,lixgtox, Monday. Four well-known citizens were proceeded against in the Magistrate's Court to-day for failure to send in returns for their lauds and mortgages in the terms of the Laud and lucome Tax Act. The solicitors of the Department declared that there was a large list of defaulters in all parts of the colony, and that these were the first of a series of cases to be brought, as the Department was being hampered in its work. ■Defendants were lined £2. with costs.
