THE GOLDMELDS.

ALBURNIA-MOANATAIARI AMAL-

GAMATION.

AN IMPORTANT PURCHASE. The Moanataiari mine at the Thames has been purchased by Mr. H. H. Adams, on behalf of the New Alburnia Gold Mining Company, ' from the May Queen-Moana-taiari Syndicate, who bought the property at auction some months ago. The purchase, which means the amalgamation of the Alburnia and Moanataiari properties, is an important one, removing, as it does, the difficulty hitherto existing in connection with the extension of the Moanataiari tunnel. It will be remembered that Mr. Adams applied to the Thames Warden's Court for leave to continue the Moanataiari tunnel to a point beneath the Alburnia shaft, a distance of about 2500 ft. The application was objected to by the owners of the Moanataiari and " Kura-nui-Caledonian properties, -joint owners thereof, chiefly on i, the grounds that their interests were likely to bo prejudiced. The Warden adjourned the hearing of the application until to-day, to allow of the objectors furnishing Mr. Adams with the conditions under which they were prepared to giant the use of the tunnel, but the purchase having been completed, the matter will not need to be dealt with in the Court. Mr. Adams' scheme in connection with the extension of the Moanataiari tunnel will be proceeded with in due course. It will enable the Alburnia mine to be developed 600 ft deeper than any previous working on the property, and is also expected to prove beneficial to adjacent mines. Mr. Adams holds an option lor the purchase of the Moanataiari battery from Messrs,; Price Bros., so that the New Alburnia Company have considerably added to the value of their property. The price paid by Mr. Adams for the Moanataiari mine is not disclosed, but it is understood that the selling syndicate retain an interest in the shape of vendors' shares. , : ~» l
