V • I regret to have to report a very serious accident to Mr. Samuel Mhldlehrook on Friday. He was employed as stoker, at the jopme of Messrs. Bonds' timber mill," that had only been started the previous day.; The journal of the main shaft having become heated,, a small key on a projecting shaft caught his shirt While in the act of examining the journal. He was carried round, and found five minutes later on the ground unite insensible, without a vestige of clothes on his body, his pocks having been torn off. Life was thought to be extinct, his fact and body being covered 'with blood. ' However, a telegram was. hurried off uc Dr. Slater, of Waihi, who arrived at the mill from Waihi in two hours after its receipt. Tie dressed the wounds, putting in seven stitches on the side of the leg. The sufferer was then carried home on a stretcher, and did not recover consciousness for some hours. The doctoi does not expect a fatal result, though the man had a most miraculouse escape, as had his head struck a log within a few inches of where he was revolving, his brains would have been clashed out. Mr. Midrtlcbrook has a wife and grown-up family, having married a daughter of Mr. Stewart Pea, a member of the No. 1 Party, and has recently been engaged in mining operations, in which he was most successful, and is much respected in the settlement.; . ■
