A DREADFUL TRAGEDY.
MOTHER AND CHILD MURDERED. A SECOND CHILD MORTALLY WOUNDED. THE FATHER MISSING. Ly Telegraph.—Press Association.—Co&tfrJsbt. Melbourne, May 26. A dreadful tragedy has been enacted at South Yarra. The landlady of a house where a young couple named Stott and '.heir two children were staying failing to rniso them this morning, entered ths mow and found Mrs. Stott and a three-year-old child lying dead in bur, with their heads battered in, and a bloodstained tomahawk 011 the floor. The second child was in bed unharmed. Stott is missing, and ha, no) been seen since he retired last night. (Received May ?7, 12.41 a.m.) Melbourne, May 26. Later details show that the second child, eighteen months old, had its skull badly fractured, and its recovery is hopeless. There are indications of a terrible struggle, the other two victims being fearfully chopped about. The family were in poor circumstances, and occupied a single room. Stott, who is a labourer, was dismissed from his employment on Friday. lie is still missing.
