THE U.S.S. WHEELING.
THE HARBOUR BOARD THANKED. At the meeting of the Harbour Board yesterday afternoon, the following letter was received from Lieutenant-Commander Henry Minett, of the United States gunboat Wheeling:"lt is my pleasant duty to thank you all for the many and continued acts of kindness on your part since the arrival of the Wheeling in this port. I deeply appreciate your allowing me the free use of the Calliope Dock and the Hob-son-street Wharf, both of which have aided me in furthering the repairs to this ship. It was very generous on your part to allow me to moor alongside the Ilobsonstreet Wharf, in spite of the . unfinished condition of that wharf, and I ass>Ure you that it has made it very comfortable and convenient for me, and hastened repair work on the vessel. I also thank you for the free use of the shed on the wharf, which has been a great convenience in many ways. I should be pleased to receive any members of the Harbour Board and their families on the vessel at any time that it suits their convenience. 1 shall forward a copy of this letter to the Secretary of the Navy, in order that he may see with what consideration a United States warship is treated at the port of Auckland, New Zealand."
