POISONING BLACKBERRY BUSHES.
HARDSHIPS OF SETTLERS.
[BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Napier, Tuesday. The question of poisoning blackberry bushes was referred to at to-day's meeting of the Hawke's Bay County Council. The chairman drew attention to the hardships settlers were subject to in their efforts to comply with the law. They were compelled to clear the briars, even to the middle of the roads, but as they could not very well dig up the roads to get out the roots of the blackberries the only course open to them was to poison. This thev were not permitted to do. As the bushes were usually thickest on the lines of road the chairman thought representations should bo made to the Government asking for an alteration in the law in the direction of permitting poisoning except during fruiting season. .
