DARING ROBBERY AT CAMBRIDGE.
Another of a scries of robberies which have occurred at Cambridge during the past 12 months, took place at Mr. W. Escott's general store in Victoria-street, on Saturday evening last. Mr. Escott had followed his usual custom of driving to business, and had tied his horse to the horse-post. On his returning, the two assistants went away, and being apprised of the fact that his horse was setting off up the road, he at once rushed out to stop it. A lady to whom he had been attending left the shop at the same moment. When on the front doorstep she heard someone enter hurriedly by the back entrance door, but thinking it was one of M.. Escott's assistants, paid little hoed to the occurrence. Mr. Escott ha.ing returned, had occasion to go to the safe, and at once discovered that about £15 had boen taken. It is quite certain that the money was extracted during his temporary absence, and it seems equally certain that the loosening of the horse was premeditated. Constable McGilp has the matter in hand, but so far has obtained no clue to the perpetrator.— Correspondent.]
