The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, ore in receipt of the , following cablegram from their London house:—Tallow: We quote present spot values for the following: descriptions of tallow:— Pine mutton. 30s 3d; good beef, 29s 9d. There is no demand for edible sorts. For good and inferior mutton the market shows a lower tendency.

LONDON WOOL SALES. ■ London, May 10. . At the wool sales bidding was brisk, but prices are unchanged. Home and Continental buyers are competing eagerly. The sales included: Ellerslie, Is Ogd; Kapatune, Is Igd; Manakuri, 7sd; Castlerock, 63d; Kiwi, 6gd; Mako, 6d. Up to date for the present series 50,048 bales have been catalogued, and 48,172 gold.

AGENT-GENERAL'S MARKET CABLEGRAMS. [BY TELEGRAPH.PEESS ASSOCIATION.]

Wellington, Monday. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the Agent-General, London, dated 11th inst.: —Importations of Kiver Plate frozen meat and butter into the United Kingdom during last month (April) were: Mutton66s9 carcases landed at London, 20,845 at Liverpool, and 24,356 at Hull and Newcastle. Lamb — 3362 carcases landed at London, 17,000 at Liverpool, and 3652 at Hull and Newcastle. Butter—9434cwts, landed at Liverpool and London.

The Department has received the following cable, dated London, 9tli inst.Trade for all classes of mutton has been very slow and prices are barely maintained. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4id; Dunerlin, Southland, and W.M.E. Company, 4d; and North Island mutton, 3fd; River l'late, 3£d. The lamb market is weak. The average price to-day for Canterbury lamb ia 33d; brands other than Canterbury, 4gd: River Plate, 4&d. The beef market is quiet fit former prices. The butter market is dHll at 99s per 'cwt; Danish. 101s per cut; Argentine, 94s per cwt. The cheese market is falling—66s per cwt. The hemp market, is firm at former prices. There is a disposition to sell distant hemp. October and December shipments have been at £29. Stock, 513 tons, as against 342 tons last year. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. The average price for bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171b per bushel, on the spot, is 50s per cwt. The wool market is active and advancing.
