A QUESTION TO THE PREMIER.
INTERESTING POINT.
At yesieruay's meeting of the Waitemata County Council the Premier's reply to a petition, endorsed by the Council, which had been laid before him by Mr. George Pirritt, of Henderson, was read by the chairman (Mr. O'Neill). The Premier's opinion was invited in respect to the following points:— Have the vendors of a property subdivided and sold by public auction, with roads and reserves shown on the plan of subdivision, the right to dispose of any part of such roads or reserve, after parting with some of the lots, without consulting or obtaining the consent of the purchasers of the lots sold previously? 2. Have the purchasers of one or more lots the right to travel on all roads and reserves shown on the plan of subdivision before they have been dedicated to the control of the County Council'/ Mr. Pirritt expressed the opinion that the Council would remove a serious grievance to a number of settlers if they succeeded in opening a certain road and reserve at Henderson, the closing of which had shut off access to certain properties. Mr. Seddon's reply was as follows:"I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of the letter signed by yourself and two other settlers of Henderson drawing attention to what you consider a grievance in connection with the stoppage of a road in your district, and also what you regard as s breach of faith m the sale of a reserve. In reply I have to state that the matter appears to be of a private nature, in which the Government cannot interfere, as it is not Government property, and the only remedy would seem to be a civil action at law.—l am, etc., It. J. Skddon." It was decided on the motion of Mr. Cochran to obtain legal opinion in respect to the matter.
