LAWN TENNIS.

The annual meeting of the Zoalandia Winter Tennis Club was held last Tuesday evenl ing in the office of Mr. Geo. Cozens, HighI street, Mr. A. H. Brabant in the chair. There j was a good attendance of members and those ' interested in winter tennis on asphalt. The J secretary's report showed that although there ! were unusually heavy expenses to be met in regard to repairs to courts, etc., last year, there remained a credit balance in the hands of the treasurer of £3 Is Id after meeting all liabilities. Eight new members wore elected, so that the indications are that the membership list will be again shortly filled. Mr. F. Johnson was elected treasurer in place of Mr. Geo. Cozens, who retired after having filled the position for a number of years, general regret being expressed at the re-tire-ment. The other officers of last year wore ro-elected. The subscription fee was again fixed at 10s 6d for the season, with an en- ' trance fee of 5s for new members. Tho courts in Stanley-street are now being done up and prepared for the season, so that members can rely upon them being opened for play almost immediately. Tho secretary of the Eden and Epsom Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club writes to contradict a paragraph which appeared in last Saturday's tennis notes to the effect that the club " has earned the unenviable reputation of being tho most expensive club in Auckland." As a matter of fact (he says) the only alteration in the fees this year was the raising of the ladies' entrance foe from 5s 3d to 10s 6d, and the subscription from 15s 9d to £1 la. This alteration practically makes tho fees to this club the same as to others in Auckland, and taking into consideration how far in advance of any other clubs the Eden and Epsom lawns arc, the foes are not at all heavy. The call was made to extinguish an old liability, not to meet cur rent expenses, and as this liability has now been extinguished, no further call will be ' made.
