Tho American and Australian Company's steamer Jeseric arrived at Wellington from Lyttelton at noon yesterday, and is expected to be despatched tor Auckland to-morrow. The Tyser liner Indradevi arrived at Melbourne from London yesterday, and after-call-ing at Sydney comes on to Auckland., where she is duo about May 18. THE WAKANLI. The New Zealand Shipping Company's fine steamer Wakanui arrived from London, Capetown, and Hobart last evening, and was promptly inspected and cleared by the medical and Customs authorities, berthing at the Queen-street Wharf shortly before 8 p.m. Captain W. Worster is still in command, and has with him the following officers:— Mr. H. C. Barnes, R.N.R.; second, Mr. T. P. "Wingate. 8.N.K.; third, Mr. 11. Nicholson, R.N.R.; fourth, Mr. C. Miluer; midshipmen, Messrs. Le Seur and Easily. Mr. Christie is in charge of the engine department, and has with him Messrs. Busch, Bonce. McGuire, Campbell. Messrs. Hayes and White being the refrigerating engineers. Mr. James is the steward in charge. Of the voyage the second officer reports : The Wakanui left London on February 23. and experienced very bad weather on the passage to Newport, which port was left on March '/. Fine weather prevailed on the run to Capetown, where the steamer arrived on March 31. The voyage was resumed tho same date, and fine weather was experienced in the "Southern Ocean, Hobart being reached oik April 21. Discharged 1400 tons of rails, and left for Auckland at 6 a.m. on the 24th. Strong easterly winds, at. times rising to a gale, and heavy nead seas, prevailed all the way across tho Tasman Sea. Passed Cape Maria Van Diemen at midnight on Wednesday, awd anchored in the harbour at 6 p.m. yesterday. The Wakanui has 1700 ton.i of cargo to discharge. and has also a large quantity of 3ax, kauri gum, etc., to take in for London, and leaves for the South early next week.

NORTHERN WAIROA SHIPBUILDING Messrs. Brown and Sons, shipbuilders of Te Kopurn, have launched another vessel from their yards, to do credit to the shipbuilding industry of this district (writes our Northern Wairoa correspondent). The vessel, which was successfully launched on Monday, is a schooner, built to the order of Messrs. Kerr Bros., of the New Hebrides. Her dimensions are 73ft overbad, 18ft beam, and Bft depth, She is to be schooner-rigged, and fitted with an oil engine, avid is expected to possess srood KM'lini;: qualities. She has been well and faithfully built, every detail being carefullv attended to. The vessel is to proceed to Auckland in the course of a few days. It is now only thren and a-nalf months since the builders launched wo 8.3. Naumai. which is now running on our waters and giving general satisfaction. The , firm has on order a steam scow for Messrs Btojrwt Broß.. of Helensville. A era of this sort, should prove a very suitable carrier for our nver work, such as the conveyance of sheep, cattle, and timber. ol
