THE HERALD. t . , ' The Union Company's steamer Herald, which has been placed on the Auckland-East Coast . trade instead of the Omapere, is due i from East Coast ports, on Wednesday, and is timed to leave for the East Coast at 5 p.m. on Thursday. , •, 1 - * THE ZEALANDIA.'' ■~ -The Huddart-Parker steamer Zealandia, [ Captain W. J. Wyllie, arrived from Southern and East Coast ports at 10 a.m. yesterday. The steamer left Dunedin on Tuesday last, and called at Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne. Left the latter port at 1 P.m. on Saturday, and arrived as above. Variable winds and fine weather prevailed from Dunedin to Gisborne; thence southerly winds and sea to arrival. The Zealandia made. a very fast passage from Gisborne of 21 hours, an average rate of speed of-14.3 knots being maintained throughout. The Zealandia proceeds on to Sydney at 5.30 p.m. to-day. THE JESERIC. The American and Australian Company's steamer Jeseric, which is due at Auckland shortly from New York, via the South, having arrived at Port Chalmers en April 18, is a Steel screw steamer of 4484 tons, built at Glasgow in 1902, and owned bv Messrs. Andrew Weir and Co., of that city, the owners of the famous Bank line of. steamers. She is a specially constructed! cargo vessel, and is fitted with all the most recent labour-saving appliances. ■.. The Jeseric brings from New York no less than 8880 tons of general and deadweight - cargo, principally deadweight; 4000 tons of this is for Dunedin, and the remainder for Lyttelton, Wellington, Auckland, and Napier. , Captain W. Shotten is in command, Mr. E. H. Cosy is chief officer, Mr. H. Brown second, and Mr. H. Lamb third. The chief engineer is Mr. Letton; second, Mr. Smith; third, Mr. Bonnie; fourth, Mr. Bone. The Jeseric left New York on February 13, and had nor£h>east and variable winds with fine weather to arrival at St. Vincent on February 26; took in bunker coal, and left the island on the following day; had variable winds with fine weather to the equator, which She crossed on March 6 in longitude 14 west; thence the south-east trades were picked up— they were good, and left her in latitude 12 South; thence she had variable Winds, and crossed the meridian of Greenwich on March 12 hi latitude 20 south; thence she took the Westerlies, and rounded the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope on March 19 in latitude 38 south. Her passage across the Southern Ocean was marked by Strong winds from north-west to south-west, •with occasional gales, high seas, and squally weather; rounded the meridian of Cape LeeUwin on April 7; had variable westerly winds; passed the island of Tasmania on April 13; had moderate westerly winds. and made the Snares at 4 p.m. on the 17th hist., reaching Port Chalmers as above. .■'.'* . THE WOOSUNG. The barque Woosung, Captain E. Davies, arrived from Lyttelton yesterday with a cargo of grain. The master reports sailing from Lyttelton on April 16, and experienced light southerly -winds for a couple of days; thence until reaching the East Cape northerly and north-we3terly winds, blowing very hard at times. On Thursday last the wind came from the south, and kept fair up to the time the vessel anchored in Eangitoto Channel on Saturday, evening, being towed into port by the S.s.
