NE-Yf ZEALAND FOOTBALL TEAM.
VISIT TO AUSTRALIA. [BY TELEGKArH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday. With reference to the proposed tour of a football team from New Zealand through New South Wales and Queensland, the secretary of the New South Wales Union cables secretary of the New Zealand Union: Propose first match your team July 18, anil last on August 15. Queensland agrees. Telegraph definite reply, enabling settlement of contingent dates." HERE AND THERE. The annual meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union has been fixed for April 17. Clubs should note this and call their meetings early. The annual meeting of the North Shore District Football Club mil be held on Tuesday evening next. The international " socker" match, Wales v. Ireland, will be played to-day. Frenchmen appear to be gaining ground as exponents of the Rugby game. The principal team _of Paris, the Racing Club de ranee, -defeated the touring Canadian Rugbyites by eight points to three. The; speedy threequarter-back Phil. Jacobs, has returned to New Plymouth from the South Island. He has been suffering from pleurisy, and is not likely to play this season. The success which is attending the movement to resuscitate the Australian game of football in this State is even surprising to the most sanguine supporters (says a Sydney journal). On every hand prospects arc very bright, and the same which is to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground on May 23 between two crack Victorian teams is creating a vast amount of interest. , In this State a large number of players will play the Australian game this season. There seems every probability that a visit will be madq to New Zealand during the latter end of the coming season by one of t-lie richest amateur Association football combinations of England, the Corinthians. At the conclusion of the present English season, the Corinthians will tour South Africa and Australasia. So far as Australasia is concerned, no matches have been arranged, but should the opportunity occur during their visit they will no doubt play several games. Their visit to this part of the world is chiefly a sight-seeing one. The New Zealand Association will no doubt take this matter up, and more should be heard about it. Ten players have been selected, including five present members of the university elevens and throe past Blues. Those selected are: T. S. Rowlandson (goal), P. L. Hollins, W. W. Timmis, and 0. T. Norris, backs: H. Vicleers, P. P. Braithwaite. G. B. Pollock, halfbacks ; H. S. Snell, F. 11. Bryant, and J. E. Balfour Melville, forwards. The team leave for South Africa in June.
