SOUTH AFRICAN TRADE.
A RECORD CARGO. [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday. The steamer Stirrer, which sailed for South Africa yesterday, took the largest;cargo ever carried from this colony for South Africa. There is a large increase in the shipment of oats, mutton, bran, m.d pork, but a decrease in poultry, lamb, beef, butter, and cheese. The New Zealand and African Steamship Company have intimated to the Government that the April steamer under the South African steam service contract will be the Norfolk. The loading ports are not yet declared by the contractors, and ill any case will not be approved by the Department until the 4th prox., with a view to give outports the opportunity of participating in' the service by guaranteeing the minimum (300 tons) of cargo.
