Sydmey, March. 27. The Rev. Dr. Dill Macky addressed a large meeting at along for the purpose of forming a branch of the Protestant Defence Association. » -
The audience was thrown into contusion by the sudden rsport of firearms, followed by a fusilade of stones and glass bottles on the roof.
A mob gathered outside and attempted to enter the hall. A panic seemed inevitable, but. those near the doors barricaded them.
The police outside were powerless to quell the disturbance. Eventually a police magistrate arrived, and read the Riot Act.
A stone came through the window,_ and struck a man severely.
• After the reading of the Act a number of arrests were made.
The walls Butside are marked with revolver shots.
One man named Gray had his eye gouged out after leaving the meeting, and is ia a critical condition. • Four men were fined for rioting.
