The' present issue .of the Auckland Weekly News, now published, contains an exceptionally large number of handsome and interesting illustrations. Sport is well represented, the Auckland polo gymkhana and races providing a number of attractive illustrations. The Maori regatta at Ngaruawahia, as illustrated, shows exactly the novelty and picturesqueness of this great native carnival. The Waitara Regatta, tho Poverty Bay, and Hawke's Bay cricket teams. The opening of the Birkdale cycling track, trout-fishing in the Waikato, yachting in Auckland and in the Bay of Islands, all go to indicate the variety of sports in New Zealand, and how thoroughly New Zealanders support them. Country scenes include new views of Kawhia, the Thames River, at Paeroa, the shores of Lake Rotoiti, bush life in the Far North, farming at Cambridge, life on Motiti Island, and othei pictures. Groups and portraits include the officials of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, the Japanese Commissioners, Palmerston North Friendly Societies' Executive, the new members of the Legislative Council, the Boer delegates, the Dairy Association secretaries, members of the Hibernian Society's Sports Committee, the working staff of the new Pacific cable station, and others.
