Engineer's Report: The engineer's report stated that P. Sheehan had thrown up his contract for claying Netherton Boad, and Mr. W. Styles, of Netherton, had written offering to take up the work at Mr. Sheehan's contract price, £54. With regard to G. Tetley's application for water from abattoirs supply, the engineer reported that if this was granted he concluded the Council would have fulfilled its promise, and that this would be the only free supply given, ■ otherwise the* available quantity may be drawn ' upon to such an extent as will leave none for the abattoirs. With, regard to a large, quantity of gravel and metal in the Ohinemuri River at the rear of the hotel, which, if available, would be very valuable to the county, the engineer pointed out that certain owners of some islands in- the river objected to the metal being taken, and that- the road from the main road to the river could only be used by paying heavy toll. He . recommended that a half-chain to the river and the islands referred to be taken under the Public " Works Act. • The engineer furthef recommended that the Government be approached with ' the view .of , having main roads • laid . off and drained, connecting the Piako swamp lands with Paeroa, such road to connect with the present Mill Road and Netherton-Turua Eoad. Main Boi^d: The Council, decided to call tenders fey; next meeting for metal for the main road. Mackaytown Footpaths: . A largely-signed petition was read from residents of Mackaytown asking for a footpath to Dogherty's Creek. It was decided that the engineer report on this application at next meeting.
